4 tips for cleaning up and clearing out

After a holiday in a tidy apartment and the view of the essentials, I have made an appointment with myself for clearing out the four walls. I have followed a few tips that helped me release ballast.

Tip 1? Always only a room tidying up

Maybe you know that: you start in a room with tidying up and you're in the basement to deposit something from the drawer there. Then your gaze wanders to something else, you take something back upstairs, which belongs, for example, in the kitchen. The sink also needs to be scrubbed. At least here, the action of clearing and clearing out goes into a gauntlet, spread over the whole living space. So, Tip 1 is: Take a room and stay with it, do not be distracted and do not jump across the flat. Only when you have finished this room will you move on to the next one. Overload a whole room, drawer drawer drawer on.

Tip 2? Arrange work material

Before you start, you prepare your work material. Hey, work material? In my case, they were empty boxes that I labeled for each purpose: a box for electronic waste that has accumulated over the years. In addition a box for the cellar, one for the flea market and another to the clearing on the street or with the inscription "to give away". What remained was a box for the later, bundled sale on an online platform. With emphasis on "later". Because here I like to distract myself and am then swiftly hours in the virtual world, which gives me even more work, than that something is less. Then I had plastic bags for old clothes and shoes in use, and of course for residual waste.

Tip 3? Let in on letting go

Of course, if you're not ready to part with a few things, all the boxes and sacks you've prepared will not work. But I do not want to blow the same horn as many magazines that report on the inner chaos, which is directed with such cleanup and clearing actions in orderly paths. But, hand on heart: how many shirts, sweaters or shirts hang in your closet that you have not worn in years? Of course you can bet, once the discarded part is gone, it's back in fashion. But it also creates space and space for the other clothes, and the daily clothes mountain is much faster to cope with a little more air in the closet. When clearing out, I've always wondered if I really need that? And if I'm honest, then I did not miss anything in the apartment, even if I have lived there of course no everyday life.

Tip 4? Now is cleaned up and cleared out

You have decided on the first room and the boxes are ready? Then you may now be very generous when clearing the drawers, shelves and cabinets. Everything must first get out completely. After sorting out and reassigning often things still remain that do not really have a place. If that's how you feel, then assign them a place. For me, these were all the cables for phones, for charging, transferring data. After I noticed that, I put a hook in the wall and now I do not have to search anymore. I also collected buttons in five different drawers and tins. Over all those decades, I did not need it, and now the seamstress in Neighboring Street has been happy about it. These are only minor things, but in the accumulation, the drawers are no longer open, and there is always little room for anything new.

My conclusion from the big clearing out:

Maybe there is something in psycho-hygiene. I feel tidy and satisfied again, with less ballast on my neck and no longer let myself be impressed by an unread daily newspaper. This is exactly how it moves into the waste paper and no more piles and stacks are formed. Let's see how long that will last!
