6 tips for real men's gifts

The occasions to give something away are many. Men too. This is particularly true of their wishes, which are often deciphered for uninitiated only between cryptically mumbled lines. Who from the sentence? I would really be interested in what the Meier from the opposite the pigeon shit gets so good of the car? To hear a wish must already know his husband very well. Typical men's gifts, such as ties or socks, I'll leave out of here.

From painful experience I can confirm that it is hard, really hard to be happy about it. Or at least pretend that. So what's left? Not every woman knows what track width the damn model railway in the hobby cellar really has. Or if these funny feather flashers are for fishing for pike or trout. This immediately leads to the first tip:

1. Never give something that you do not know

If the man cares for hobbies, for which he likes to buy suitable equipment now and then, wonderful. Then it should stay that way. The danger to "give away", because you have no idea, is great. Sentences like? Yes, actually great, but I need the thing with three ohms resistance and not two? can completely ruin the most beautiful birthday party. And not just for the man. Note: The more special the gift, the higher the error rate when giving. Just passed by is still missing.

2. Vouchers are boring

Again, I can speak from personal experience: If I get a gift, I want to be able to unpack it. And it's best to do what it's meant to do right away. Turn it on, strap it on, hang it up, go through it, it does not matter. The main thing to do something. Just reading about one thing that will happen in the future is totally unsatisfactory for the moment. And that's what a voucher actually always costs: I will be promised a gift for sometime later, when the occasion of the gift-giving is over. Is in my personal unpopular-gifts-ranking still in front of the socks. I can at least wear them.

3. Dear nothing than anything

Embarrassment gifts create exactly what their name suggests: embarrassment. And that applies to both the recipient and the donor. Because I am rather strong in the arm taken and pressed. A few nice words like "You do not need presents, you have me? are always welcome too. That's honest and does not embarrass. Material things are often overrated and actually you have everything anyway.

That's not all. What is possible then?

Legitimate question. The headline says yes? Tips for men's gifts? and not? No-Go's at Men's Gifts ?. Nevertheless, the overview of the "No-Go Gifts" brings? already some clarity. I started a survey in my male circle of friends about what presents? really happy. Here is the result:

4. The material makes the gift

Men love things made of robust, natural materials: leather, metal and wood always arrive well. There's a whole slew of things that women are guaranteed not to do wrong. Some examples:

  • wallets
  • leather belt
  • leather bags
  • Noble writing instruments
  • Watches
  • razor
  • pocket knife
  • Lighters
  • Model kits (made of wood)
  • Chess or backgammon games

This selection reflects only the survey in my circle of friends and can be expanded as desired.

5. Men like to read (textbooks)

According to the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels, around 45 percent of women use the book once or several times a week. In men, it is just 27 percent. If your husband is one of those 27 percent, you'll do everything right with a good book. Helpful in the selection is the information that men read almost exclusively men. A woman's name on the book cover has a deterrent effect on most men. Sad, but unfortunately that's really true. In addition to thrillers, science fiction, crime thrillers and historical novels, men like to read specialist books about their interests.

6. Men are play children

Here you can kill two birds with one stone. A nice board game is not only a great gift, but also a reason to sit down with the whole family to play. Especially women who feel that their husband is not enough for the family can give him a gentle push in the right direction.
