Air Wick FreshMatic Mini - Inexpensive refill

An Air Wick FreshMatic Mini can be refilled inexpensively.

This is how it's done:

Remove the empty Air Wick Fresh Matic Mini Cartridge from the inside of the device (device bottom: flap).

The cartridge itself is locked in a plastic holder, which can be clipped on the upper end with a little skill and a pair of scissors or a screwdriver. So you separate the actually scented capsule from the rest.

Now take a new scent capsule from any supermarket for a fraction of the original price and clip it into the same holder. Make sure that the plastic tabs rest firmly on the cartridge.

It can now be seen that the alternative capsules are much shorter than the original capsules. This will cause the device to stop working.

Reason:

The capsule is made of metal and the open closure of the device (where the cartridge and its holder come in again) has a spring, which was attached to the original directly on the bottom of the cartridge. Thus, the device has a closed circuit, similar to the system of a simple flashlight.

Remedy:

You have to bridge the 1cm with some metallic bridging. The easiest way is an 8mm nut, which you put upright. Just look in the cellar, or get 20c in the hardware store.
This fits exactly in and the device works again!

Error analysis:

Circuit closed (lamp flashes) but no spraying: I had first taken a mother too large, or tried with 2-3 washers. However, these were too big, so that the pressure on the capsule was too large and blocked the device's inside fragrance release process.

Circuit not closed (lamp does not light up). Check if the cartridge, including the holder and the nut, are firmly seated in the device (shake once). If not, use nut too small or not upright.

The whole action lasts maybe 3 minutes, but saves a lot of money, since the original patrons cost about 5-6 EUR. The replacement cartridges are smaller and do not last as long.
