Today I have prepared a deliciously refreshing dessert, consisting of apple cubes, apple juice and custard. It was straightforward in preparation, but it takes 3 to 4 hours or even overnight to gel in the refrigerator. It can also be prepared very well the day before consumption.

But the wait was worth it, the dessert tastes excellent and I am sure that children like it too. If you like, you can also add one teaspoon of calvados or cognac to the apple cubes per portion. We enjoyed the dessert very well even without alcohol and recommend to cook it.

Ingredients for 3 to 4 servings

  • 3 medium-sized sweet and sour apples
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 125 ml naturally cloudy or clear 100% apple juice
  • 4 leaves white gelatin
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • to taste and taste something Calvados or brandy / cognac
  • 1 tbsp. Custard (ready-made product or self-cooked)
  • if necessary, whipped cream

preparation

  1. The gelatin is first soaked in cold water. Then the apples are peeled and quartered, the core casing is removed and the apple quarters are cut into smaller cubes and mixed with the lemon juice so that they do not turn brown.
  2. Now the apple juice is put together with the sugar and cinnamon in a saucepan and the apple cubes are added. This mixture should now boil once and then cook on low heat for about 3 - 4 minutes - depending on the apple variety - continue cooking. The apple pieces should still have bite and not decay.
  3. Set the pot aside and allow to cool for a few minutes. The gelatin is now squeezed out and gradually stirred with a spoon under the still-hot apple mass until it has dissolved.
  4. Now, 3 or 4 bowls (depending on their size) are rinsed with cold water and the apple pieces are removed from the juice with a slotted spoon and spread evenly on the bowls. Then the remaining juice is poured on the apple pieces. If desired, one teaspoon of the desired alcohol can now be distributed over the apple cube jelly for the adults. After a short cooling period, the dessert bowls can become completely solid in the refrigerator. This should take into account 3 - 4 hours, even better this of course succeeds overnight.
  5. To serve, the edge of the dessert is then peeled off in the bowls with a knife and the apple jelly is thrown on matching plates. For safety, and so that the jelly dissolves well from the mold, you can dip this briefly in hot water, then the fall works perfectly.

A custard, either a pre-made product or a homemade sauce, goes well with the apple cube jelly. Even a thick blob of cream is not to be despised and who can not get enough of it, just take both, cream and custard!

I wish a good appetite!
