Barley Water / Barley Water - a very refreshing drink
Barley Water, or Barley Water in England, is a traditional drink that was popular as early as the 19th century. Not only because it tastes so delicious and refreshing, but it was also given to feverish children, or people who had a nervous stomach to soothe it. So also a natural remedy for small Zipperlein.
Gladly this chilled drink was enough for tennis tournaments! You too will surely enjoy it on a hot summer's day or while gardening.
You need:
3 tbsp barley or pearl barley.
Juice of two lemons
1 tbsp honey
The barley is washed three times in fresh water and poured into the sieve. Then you put the Rollgerste with half a liter of water for cooking. It has to cook for 10 minutes, then pour the drink into a jug. The barley can now be disposed of.
Mix the juice of two lemons to the barley water, as well as the spoon of honey. If you want something more spicy, you can cook a bit of ginger with the barley.
The drink is chilled and tastes delicious with crushed ice cubes.
