Battery powered alarm treadmill as a cat's bell

The other day I bought an alarm step mat. The idea behind it was not to protect me from burglars, but to be informed acoustically when my cat enters the house through his cat flap and does not come to me directly afterwards, as usual.

The reason: If he brings a (living) mouse into the house, he immediately runs to the first floor, because he knows that we would take it off on the ground floor, thus saving and releasing him. Smart as he is, he now likes to end her life on the upper floor. We will not get along with that and a solution was needed.

When I became aware of this alarm foot mat, I doubted first, but thought that I can not go wrong with the low price of 9 euros, and bought them.

Description of the alarm step mat

  • The mat is made of plastic, battery operated with an extremely long cable, at the end of which the regulator is located. This controller can thus be placed at a comfortable height, so you do not have to bend down to turn on and off.
  • There are 3 positions: Alarm - Off - Ringtone.
  • The visitor tone is a pleasant Ding-Dong - the alarm sound a loud shrill sound with 105 dB A
  • The mat is placed under the doormat or under a carpet / runner and triggers the alarm immediately upon entering. Thus, it can be used as a visitor's window (known from boutiques and smaller shops), as a cat's bell or even as an alarm.

During the day, while my cat has constant access to the house through his cat doors, I place the mat on a melodic Ding-Dong (he got used to it quite quickly after a short "introductory course" and did not even skip the sensor).

At night, before I go to sleep upstairs, I turn on alarm.

That may not be the most reliable alarm system now, but it gives me a certain reassuring certainty that I at least notice when someone is downstairs who is not invited and can call the police at an early stage. Also, I think that the shrill alarm tone deter burglars, because as you hear and read, they do not spend long with such problems and are quickly gone to the next house with fewer problems.

Incidentally, with my cat, I am sure that he will not go into the hallway at night and thus trigger a false alarm. He knows the times of the "open door".

The alarm foot mat cost around 9 euros and comes with a 9 volt battery.
