Be careful when buying cacti in autumn

I bought some small cacti at the Bauhaus a few days ago, but unfortunately I saw too late that two of them were already rotten down in the ground. No receipt, no exchange (I had disposed of after the purchase, were only a few mini-cacti).

After I told a friend of this, she said it would be no wonder, because the Bauhaus or many supermarkets store cacti for many months and they just lack the right care, the right light and warmth. She gave me a tip, and you should buy cacti only in the spring, between April and May, because most growers deliver at this time freshly bred cacti to the shops.

You should also look in the business more thoroughly, because the appearance often deceives:

  • control the earth
  • look for pests
  • Cacti with allegedly large flowers avoid, because these flowers are not even real in many cases, but stung from plastic with a needle in the plant, thereby this was already injured
