Bird food sold out? Fast stopgap

Due to the sudden and violent onset of winter, in some shops, temporarily no bird food (for free-living birds) to get more.

To give the birdies a decent meal anyway, I help myself:

Put oats (hearty or tender or both mixed) in a bowl, add a good shot of cold pressed sunflower oil, stir well so that the oatmeal will all get some of the oil.

Then bring it outside to the feeding grounds. The birds love it, especially those who seek their food on the ground.

Also good for mixing with the rather hard grains, because not all birds like the thick grains.

Of course, there is also the more well-known method of mixing exuberant beef tallow with grains, filling them into small clay pots and hanging them in the trees. This is then suitable for titmice and others who climb around in the branches and get their food there.

But the oatmeal method is simple, inexpensive and fast when birdseed becomes scarce.

Please join in and help bring the birdies through the winter. In the spring they please us again with their singing.
