Birdseed place made of orange peel
In winter, the oranges taste best, even the freshly squeezed juice is totally delicious. But for a glass of orange juice there are quite a few orange halves. From these, you can build a cute feeding place for birds.
Building instructions - how it works:
In the beginning, of course, was the enjoyment of the pressed orange juice. HM delicious! Then a little mess begins. With a spoon, the remaining pulp from the orange halves is scratched. Only the white inner skin of the orange should be visible. Since birdseed should remain dry so that no mold forms, the orange halves are filled with kitchen towels and put to dry one day on the heater. This has the side effect that it smells of orange everywhere.
Thread orange halves onto a branch
When the halves are dry, use the pair of scissors to drill small holes in the bottom of the halves. Wrap a jute yarn around a 40 cm long branch below. The purpose of this is that the first orange half, which acts as a feeding trough can not slide down. Place one half of orange with the opening facing up to the jute yarn on the stick. Push another approx. 20 cm long stick across this orange peel. This branch then serves the birds as a seat when picking the grains. The attachment should therefore be really solid. The stick must not slip. Then wrap the yarn around the long branch a bit above the deferred orange peel and bind very tightly. Push the next half of orange with the open side down as a roof of the birdhouse over the branch. The yarn serves as a holder for the roof.
Now hang up with a ribbon and fill food. I took sunflower seeds because they like to be picked by different species of birds. It is important to feed the birds only in winter. If possible, hang the birdhouse in a dry place and check regularly that the food is moist. When it molds, the birds get sick.
