Brittle rubber seals again soft and resilient

Here is a tip from the household knitting box. Where it gets colder again, I picked out my thermos flask or thermos bottle and wanted to take tea with me to the university. As the devil wanted it to be, the o-ring seemed to have dried up and become brittle and did not seal the bottle properly. So at the university bottle empty - bag wet.

I then complained to my fellow student about my unavoidable suffering. She gave me the following advice as a prospective chemist:

  1. Take out the rubbers.
  2. Insert rubber seals overnight in commercially available softener.
  3. The next morning wash off + dry off, insert and look forward to perfectly soft and durable rubbers / seals.

The trick works with all rubber materials that can become dry and brittle over time. (Car seals / refrigerator seals, etc.)

My friend recently breathed new life into our windshield wipers on the car. (They are super soft and nice flexible and clean like the first day.)

In times when the "planned wear" in companies is a matter of course and give, a helpful tip as I think.
