Build a strawberry tower yourself - instructions | TheFruitAndFlowerBasket TV
Today I would like to show you how to build a strawberry tower with a little manual skill. The advantage is that the strawberries do not rest here on the earth and therefore can not easily rot. The strawberry tower is also very good in a small space, for example. For the terrace or balcony.
You need for the Strawberry Tower:
- a sewer pipe of about 17 cm in diameter and a height of about 110 cm.
- a heavy flowerpot, ideally with rolls on the bottom.
- about 50 liters potting soil
- a drill with hole cutter attachment with about 10 cm in diameter
- a fine metal file and coarse sandpaper or sandpaper
- acrylic paint
- and of course strawberry plants. (I used 34 strawberry plants in this example)
Since the strawberry plants in the garden form a lot of foothills, I immediately used them for it.
Construction management step-by-step:
- The first step is to drill the holes for the strawberry plants. So that the distance of the holes becomes uniform, it is advisable to measure them exactly and mark them with a dot as a small help.
- Then the planting holes are drilled out. This work requires a little manual skill. It is ideal if the holes are opposite each other. The lateral holes are milled offset.
- The edges are now quite frayed and sharp, so you could cut it. Therefore, in the next step, the surface is smoothed first with the metal file and then with the emery paper.
- When this is done, the pipe can already be painted. The lower part, which is then buried in the ground, I release, there is no color up. Ideal is acrylic paint, because this is also suitable for outdoor use. It is also weatherproof and waterproof. Here you should select the desired color with strong opacity. The sign of this is the black rectangle. If this is shown on the package, the color covers the surface very well. Here I use the acrylic paint olive green. It is brushed generously and undiluted with a wide brush. After the color has dried well overnight, I have painted with the color vermilion oval points. These should also dry overnight.
- Thereafter, the tube can already be fixed in the middle of the pot and filled with soil. Press the potting soil all the way around so that the tube has a firm hold. The tube itself can then be filled with soil from above or from the holes. I have also added horn shavings to the soil, so that the strawberry plants have a good start. Of course you can also use another fertilizer of your choice.
- Starting from the bottom, the strawberry plants are then used and the earth is pressed again and again with feeling.
- At the top of the tube there are also strawberry plants and all around in the flower pot.
Done is the strawberry tower! Only pour water from below and above and wait.
Of course, the tower for flower lovers can also be planted with colorful flowers or fresh herbs.
