Candle roses and make them last

If you want to preserve roses, you can canditate them. Maybe the rose that you first want to give away or one that you got as a gift. By candying roses are preserved.

It works like this:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • Put in a saucepan and heat
  • stir until everything has dissolved
  • bring the solution to a boil once
  • and fill in a jar
  • let cool down

Now you have a syrup.

Dip the rose in the syrup or apply the syrup with a brush.

Let the rose dry. Possibly. repeat the procedure. If you do not find it too corny, you can also sprinkle coarse sugar on the rose as long as the syrup is still moist. This looks like crystals on the rose.

Such a rose lasts a long time. You can use it e.g. put in a bottle or a glass and close airtight.

Maybe a rose given away on March 8, International Women's Day, will be preserved?

Actually you could also eat the candied roses, at least the petals. But you would have to be absolutely sure that the rose is not sprayed. So use only roses from your own cultivation or roses from a source of your trust and then, of course, before the Kandieren carefully and thoroughly wash.

It can also be candied single rose petals or any other flower. Edible, if unsprayed, e.g. also dandelions or violets. You can make any flower so durable.

Incidentally, the roses smell even when they are candied.
