Check the freshness of the yeast
If you are not sure how long the yeast cube is in the fridge, just put it in a glass of water.
If the cube floats up, the yeast still has enough driving power to bake.
creativeMaidle: Oh, that's easier too:Note the MHD !!!!!!!!!!!!! and the consistency of the yeast.
Nice soft and evenly dyed --- fresh!
Dry edges, brownish discolored --- no longer fresh
peeling off dry edges. Use rest ...
Moldy because forgotten and superimposed ---- dustbin
In order to increase the certainty of success, too much yeast is often used nowadays. on a kilo of flour 1 cube of yeast is good enough. It takes a bit longer to ferment - but is beneficial for the taste minah: @primeline:
I'm in a phase of my life when I do not measure everything in terms of material value. My desire is to avoid "throwing away" in my life as far as I can.
With the yeast, however, it has actually happened to me a few times already that the MHD was still intact, but not the yeast. I wanted to bake, but because of a packet Yeast drive to the supermarket, I did not want. Have then either renounced the baking or rescheduled.
With my new knowledge, I have an option more in the case of the partly brown yeast.
But as it is so beautiful in life: Everyone as he likes and thinks right for himself.
