Clean brew group - that's how it works

My espresso machine is a fully automatic machine that indicates when it wants to be cleaned or decalcified. At some point, despite the regular cleaning and descaling, the coffee did not taste anymore. Then a friend gave me the idea to remove and clean the brewing unit inside the unit. Now the coffee tastes good again.

I thought that I would clean my fully automatic machine regularly and well. With cleaning tablets and Entkalkungstaps I proceeded as in my manual and still not everything was clean. In my instructions was not that the brewing unit, the heart of the fully automatic machine also needs to be cleaned. So far, I had thrown a cleaning tablet in a given container and pressed Start, the rest did the machine automatically. Only the pomace, milk frother and water tank, I have subsequently made clean. I had never heard of a brewing unit inside the machine. I was convinced that the automatic cleaning process takes care of the inner workings. Did not quite agree.

In the brewing unit, coffee and oil residues may settle over time. Not only does it taste awful, but in the worst case mold can form as well. Fortunately, I have a device that allows you to remove the brewing unit. There are fully automatic machines, which is not the case. When purchasing a fully automatic machine, it is better to make sure that the brewing unit is removed and easily cleaned.

Instructions for cleaning the brewing group step-by-step:

  1. I have a fully automatic machine from Bosch. In this device, the right side flap is first unlocked with a penny and opened (Figure 2). First, for safety's sake, pull out the power plug.
  2. Move the white bar with a skewer or a small knife (picture 3).
  3. Then the brewing unit can be completely pulled out to the front.
  4. Thoroughly rinse the brew unit with a sponge under running warm water and dry well with kitchen towels.
  5. Clean badly accessible areas with a pipe cleaner.
  6. Then the unit can be used again and the coffee is really delicious.
