Clean contaminated earplugs (from in-ear headphones)

Who does not know that? Super stylish and cool in-ear headphones not only sound great, they also look great!

At least at the beginning. However, after some time, the earplugs (whether black, white or any other color) are becoming increasingly covered with dirt, earwax and bacteria. This does not look appetizing, it is also extremely unhygienic.

For a long time I was looking for a suitable cleaning method that not only removes the dirt, but also destroys the bacteria and, above all, thoroughly removes the yellow discolouration (on my white plugs). Unfortunately, I did not find anything on the internet, but then I got an idea:

I put those from the headphones disconnected earplugs overnight into a glass of lukewarm water and a tablet Braces cleaner (Available in every drugstore or in the drugstore department in the supermarket). The next morning, I rinse the earplugs thoroughly and dry them well, before re-attaching them to the headphones, previously cleaned with a damp cloth.

I do that regularly, like every 4 weeks, and my headphones now look great, including earplugs after 2 years, and are still hygienically clean, like new headphones.

If it is very dirty, you can also put the earphones in a glass with a dishwasher tab overnight. This is a bit more aggressive, but also survive the good earplugs and are then as new.
