Clean headphones with tape

Earphones that are worn directly in the ear inevitably come into contact with earwax, dander and other particles.

The simple ear buds have a foam attachment, high-quality in-ear headphones even a silicone attachment. Of course, both can be taken off and cleaned under warm water with a little detergent. But often that is not enough.

If one removes the washable essay, it does not always reveal a sparkling headphone! Because even the small holes on the headphones over time, which not only looks unappetizing, but may even affect the listening pleasure.

How do you get the dirt out of the holes without destroying the headphones? Various methods are presented on the Internet, but not all are recommended.

Please do not vacuum your headphones with the vacuum cleaner!

One could come up with the idea to vacuum the headphones with the vacuum cleaner. However, this must be discouraged because the sensitive electronics in the headphones can break. Besides, it usually does not do anything.

You should not go with compressed air or even try to remove the dirt with a brush. Because with all these methods you press the incrustations only in the headphones.

It goes without saying that one should not keep the headphones under water!

The best tip: clean headphones with good adhesive tape

The best way to clean the plastic surface under the earplugs made of foam or silicone regularly with a soft cloth. Then the dirt does not even sit in the fine holes. In addition, I stick a strip of Tesafilm or better still package tape over the holes, press this well and then remove it. The dirt will then stick to the tape and your headphones are clean again. The tip I had found here on //www.kopfhoerer.com/.

If that does not work, it may be because the dirt is already too dry. Then you can carefully use a needle to loosen it slightly (but do not push it in) and then remove it with the adhesive strip.

Clean the headphones checklist:

  • Clean foam or silicone tops with detergent under water
  • Regularly wipe the plastic surface of the studs with a dry cloth
  • Never vacuum the headphones with the vacuum cleaner, do not treat with compressed air and do not clean with the brush!
  • Clogged holes can be cleaned with adhesive tape
