Clearing and disposal - that's the way it works

The wardrobe is bursting at the seams, the sofa is worn and the old DVD player does not do it anymore. Of course - the stuff has to go. But how and where? And which items might it be worth selling on or passing on? We give tips for spring "mucking out".

The problem with mucking already starts with the decision: What should go? Maybe I'll wear this shirt at some point? Is not this old stool quite practical? And what about the old wooden train or the cuddly toy from which the children have long grown out? A tip: What has not been used or touched for two years, it usually stays that way. All the more, this applies to things that have already landed in the basement or in the attic anyway.

Dispose of or pass on?

Once you have decided to part with the items, the second question follows: dispose of them or pass them on? After all, it would be nice if someone else could be happy about the practical stool or the toy train. Here's where it helps to ask yourself: would I 'inherit' this object or garment to my best friend? If the answer is yes, then the item is still good enough to be given away, sold or donated. If not, then he is ready for the ton? or rather a corresponding disposal.

The Internet as a notice board

In the past, you offered old stuff on the bulletin board, today the Internet takes over this function. Whether for exchange, to give to self-collectors or for money - free classified ad portals and file sharing makes it easier today to reach many potential customers. Especially with bad purchases, old, still functioning devices or one or the other piece of furniture that can be quite rewarding.

Purchase portals? good for books, DVDs and computer games

You can often get rid of books or the DVD collection via special purchase portals on the internet? and even gets a little money for it. The principle is simple: You can download a free app on your mobile phone and scan the barcodes of the books or DVDs, an input by hand on the website is also possible.

The portal then tells you how much you get for it and you can print out a free shipping label. Then you just have to pack the things, stickers on it and bring to the post office. A few days later you get the money for it. Examples of such portals are momox.de and rebuy.de

Why not repair instead of throw away?

A special case are electrical appliances that we no longer use only because of a defect that just does not work anymore. Instead of buying a new device right away, a repair can pay off here. Especially for mobile phones and computers, there are now mobile phone doctors and do-it-yourself workshops and shops in most cities. At such repair meetings, you simply go there and receive expert help and spare parts, with which you can repair the device under the guidance of yourself. There are also clubs that accept discarded computers, repair the device and then pass it on to the needy.

Where to go with discarded clothes?

The old shirt, the pants, which was already too tight when buying: where to go? If the clothes are still fairly new and high-quality, it can be worthwhile to offer them to second-hand shops. If you want to donate, you can offer it to the garment chambers of churches, the Caritas and other municipal institutions. If the clothes prefer to benefit refugees, you should first inform yourself over the Internet or telephone, which garments are needed.

The vast majority of used clothes ends up in the collection container, as they are placed in many cities on street corners. More than 750,000 tonnes of used clothing is collected in Germany every year. The textiles from the old clothing collection, which can still be used, are usually sold, with the proceeds going to charitable causes. Everything else will? ideally ? shredded and reused? for example, as interior trim in the car.

Where to go with old electrical appliances?

Electrical appliances such as computers, televisions or cell phones are not household waste, because they contain toxic substances such as lead, mercury and plasticizer. On the other hand, they contain valuable high-tech raw materials. Therefore you should hand this over to municipal recycling centers. Even e-markets and mobile service providers are taking back old devices.

Bring CDs and DVDs to collection points

Most of the CDs and DVDs are made of polycarbonate plastic, which is easy to recycle. However, this only applies if we deliver these data carriers to the appropriate collection points (eg from Blueboxx) instead of just throwing them in the yellow sack.
