Cloth bag instead of wrapping paper
Mounds of used (and mostly non-reusable) wrapping paper end up in the waste paper after Christmas (or birthdays).
With us there are now the presents in cloth bags, which can be used again and again. For this I get beautiful fabric remnants, from which I sew with simple straight seams (thus also for Nähanfänger no problem) little bags in different sizes. In a side seam, I immediately take a satin ribbon, which later serves as a "gift ribbon".
In January, there are mostly beautiful (different sized) remaining pieces of Christmas fabrics in fabric shops. I'll pick them up to supplement my stock of cloth gift bags (our bags are also sometimes kept by the recipient ...). When I have time, I cut them and put them together (that is, I prepare to sew). Then I put them to the sewing machine, and whenever I have something to sew or mend, I also sew the bags, where I can use the sewing silk, which is currently in the machine and color matches the fabric. This will create some new bags during the year, and I do not have the stress of having to sew before Christmas.
By the way, there are also beautiful, funny colorful fabrics that are suitable for birthday gift bags ...
Since these bags can be used over and over again, and because the fabric remnants are not expensive, this is an inexpensive and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wrapping paper.
