Cold: Cheap alternative to the nasal douche

Who does not know that - the cold / the cold / the sinus infection attacks us regularly - probably all of them.

The rinsing of the nose (and sinuses) can provide relief because, by rinsing

  • the mucus is transported away
  • swell the mucous membranes
  • the mucous membranes are moistened (dry mucous membranes, as caused by many nasal sprays, not only break in and thus form a stove for other viruses / bacteria, they also prevent rapid healing).

Well, not everyone has a nasal shower at hand, maybe you do not want to buy expensive ones first, if you've never tried that before - or or or.

Even in such an "emergency situation", I have done two things without a real nose shower:

First test

  • 1 L of salt water
  • 1 plastic sports bottle (which I no longer use for sports) with screw-on lid and these Nuckelaufsätzen - which are opened with Hochzug.

I press the Nubbel on the top of the sports bottle against a nostril and can even control by pressure on the yielding plastic bottle, with how much water I at what speed / at what pressure, I rinse my nose and caves. This is an advantage for me, compared to the usual commercially available nasal douches.

(By the way, the sports bottle is my absolute favorite, when it comes to nasal irrigation.)

Alternative for those who do not have a sports bottle at home:

Second test

  • 1 L of salt water
  • 1 jug / big jar
  • 1 funnel

Funnel into a nostril and let the salt water from the jar into the funnel. Alone not easy, but doable. A second - helping hand - which then runs the water in the funnel, would certainly be helpful.
