Cut the jeans and get the original hem

If you do not want to roll up jeans that are too long for you, it usually only helps to trim and skirt, if you want it to look reasonable. Unfortunately, the beautiful original hem will be lost, and the new hem will make it look forever that it has been sewn over.

Scrubbing, washing and ironing do not help, the hem looks somehow new and not "real jeans". But there is the ultimate denim hem tip! He comes from a seamstress, is easy to imitate, but a little tricky to explain.

So so:

  1. you grasp the excess fabric (ie, what is too long and should be) on the inside just above the hem and put it with pins all around just above the old hem. The result is a small tube, which is of course only half as wide as the excess length, because it is now double.
  2. This tube is folded so that it points away from the hem with the closed side up, that's very important. He must not be put on the hem, but must point away from him in the pockets of his trousers.
  3. If you turn the whole thing to the right, you have a small edge, which rests directly on the old hem. Put them as close to the hem as possible, but do not overlap.
  4. Then pinned, not forgetting the needles on the left side, then sew on, preferably in the color just like the fabric. Ironing - done!
  5. You barely see it, only when you know it and look closely.
  6. I know it sounds very complicated in the beginning, but once you get it out, it can be done easily and faster than the traditional Umsäumerei.
  7. I recommend to try it "dry" without sewing, or you practice it on an old pants, which should be discarded anyway.

Result:

The jeans look like they've never been cut, and you've saved the beautiful "jeans edge".
