Date chutney

This recipe is a nice last minute gift. All required ingredients can be stored in the store without cooling, so you can already prepare now.

The date chutney tastes great with grilled lamb, cheese platter or crackers.

Ingredients for 3-4 marmalade jars

  • 500 g of dried dates
  • 2 dried chili peppers
  • 30 g walnut kernels
  • 150 ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 150 ml of strong red wine
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 5 tbsp red balsamic vinegar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 40 g of dried cranberries

And so it goes

  1. The dates are pitted and chopped. Lightly brown the almond flakes in a non-stick pan. Slit the chili peppers and core them, crush them.
  2. Put the red wine and the orange juice in a saucepan with the honey and the dates, as well as the cranberries and the crushed chillies. Finally stir in the vinegar.
  3. Boil slowly, about 10 minutes, the liquid should be greatly reduced.
  4. With the blender, the mass is crushed, then the finely chopped walnuts are added and the pinch of salt. Boil briefly again and fill very hot in the screw jars.
  5. Sugar is not necessary, the dates are already sweet enough. The vinegar makes the chutney taste sweet and sour.
