Dishcloth smells - boil dishcloth
Do you know that? The dishcloth starts to smother after a while ... I have an old small pot that I fill with some water. Then some washing powder to clean and of course the dishcloth. I let it so "simmer" about 15-20 minutes. Then I wash it out with water and tada! it smells fresh again and is clean.

But if I started to take the old ones back, I would just put them in the washing machine .... Eifelgold: Tadaaa, we are one of the people who can not handle their money so badly and throw the dishcloths in indeed in the machine. After the wash, they are clean and fresh.And if they do not look good, they are still good for the cat litter box.
The tip with the Auskochen is a good idea. But personally I would be too umstädlich and energy waste
