DIY: Make tea bags + tea mix yourself

A cup of tea is like a consolation for those dull days. As Ostfriesin I am anyway a? Teenase? and had enough of teabags that seem to be filled with tea leaf dust. That's why I've created my own tea bags for friends and also mixed the content myself.

This is needed:

  • Teefilter
  • cotton yarn
  • Cloth scraps, colorful paper or felt balls
  • Herbal tea: lemon balm leaves and yarrow (organic)
  • Fruit tea: Dried fruits (cherries, blueberries) cinnamon and coriander to taste
  • Sewing silk, sewing needle (sewing machine)
  • Scissors and pencil

Whole tea leaves you have to look in finished teabags already with the magnifying glass. If the bag breaks, you literally look into a cloudy cup. Fruiting fruit tea that does not taste overly flavored, or a herbal tea that contains whole leaves and that I know the leaves come from organically grown, is not that easy. So I bought yarrow and lemon balm, dried cherries and blueberries from the health food store. From a teaspoon of organic yarrow and a teaspoon of organic lemon balm creates a delicious herbal tea and a teaspoon of dried blueberries, a teaspoon of dried cherries, some cinnamon and who would like some cardamom or coriander, creates a great fruit tea, without any additives and other flavors gets along. Since the blends were so good, I sewed my own tea bags for it.

Sewing tea bags yourself

For this purpose, obtain tea filters and, using cookie cutters or other templates, the outlines of e.g. Draw stars or clouds on the filter paper. Then the whole thing comes under the sewing machine. Since I had drawn in pencil, I sewed something within the marked lines, then the pencil edge can later be cut off and does not end up in tea.

Do not sew the bag completely, but leave a small opening. Fill in the tea mixture and sew the bag completely. Cut the edge along the seam. Sew a thin cotton thread to the infusion bag. So that the tea bag is also good to keep, I sewed at the end of the thread small felt balls or cut colorful fabric, laid twice and glued to the thread end. It is a bit elaborate, but a great souvenir that comes from the heart.
