Get the cats used to the transport basket in time

When a (mostly) young cat comes into the house, one often does not remember that the animal has to go regularly to the vet in the course of her life or even travel.

It is important to get the animal used to the transport basket as well as driving (or using public transport) on time.

From the beginning I got used to the transport basket for my cats:

  • He was always in the room and was part of the "cat furniture", was also sometimes accepted to sleep or just for 'thinking and dozing ?. It is also helpful, often to lean against the cage door or even close. But then react immediately if the animal gets nervous and open the entrance again.
  • After some time I started to travel short distances by car with my cat in the basket so that she got used to driving.
  • Over time, it became a matter of course and belonged more or less to everyday life.
  • If I later had to go to the vet, it was not a problem that the basket was brought out again and there was a small excursion.
  • Although our cat had to go through bad things with the vet, he did not associate his painful experiences with the basket. He always served him as a sanctuary.
  • Meanwhile, our cat regularly travels with us to Amsterdam and sleeps and purrs completely satisfied, during the two-hour journey.
  • If you get used to the animals in time, which will come back to them later, there will be no problems with screaming cats in the car, which will make themselves invisible as soon as the transport basket is in sight, defend themselves, block and react in panic.
  • So think of it from the beginning, which will surely happen countless times in the next 17-21 years!

The four photos show tomcat Micki, who, after seven painful treatments, does not regard the transport basket as an "enemy" and soon afterwards makes himself comfortable in it.
