Get the curved cutting mat smooth again

A conventional cutting mat (the green ones), which has been arched by the action of heat, can be easily smoothed out in the following way:

Lay the cutting mat on the bottom of a baking sheet (I have used a coated roasting tray, but certainly goes a conventional baking sheet).

Put the whole thing on the middle sliding bar of the oven.


Heat the oven to about 70 - 80 ° C (conventional low-cost oven, electric gas I would not necessarily try, otherwise just watch for even warming.) Do not worry, it does not stick!

As soon as the cutting mat has smoothed out again (this happens relatively quickly when the temperature is reached), SWITCH OFF THE OVEN, place a completely covered kitchen board on the cutting mat and complain about it. I have such a heavy steel block for it, but surely it does a brick or something else that is heavy, distributes the weight evenly and keeps the heat in the furnace.

Close oven door again and allow to cool completely (I was about 3 hours out of the house in between).

The mat is again 'like new' and nice and smooth.
