Gift from the tin
As an alternative to a gift box, I like to pack a gift in a tin can. This requires one of the new can openers that open the can laterally without sharp edges. In addition, a tin can, which can be torn up, but still open from below with a can opener (there are cans, there is not).
The can is opened from below, the contents used up and the can cleaned. The box is filled with the gift and the floor is glued back with glue. Now, the box gets a new dress, made of wrapping paper or even on the PC printed and labeled paper.
So far no one has noticed that the can has ever been opened :-)
