Gift ribbon or cord from fabric remnants (fabric bands)

I love new ideas for packaging gifts. From old scraps can be conjured up great ribbons, which look great as cords on children's clothes. But beware! The winding of the ribbons is really addictive.

For the tapes you need a lot of time and old scraps of cloth. Cut the fabrics into strips 1 to 1.5 centimeters wide with scissors. Some fabrics are wonderful to tear. The wider the fabric strip, the thicker the bands become. At the beginning, two strips of fabric are knotted together. It is easier if one strip of fabric is shorter than the other. Then the bands do not get so tangled up.

The winding technique

I tighten the outer strip of fabric quite tightly with my right hand. The direction of rotation is away from me. Then I put the screwed end in my direction over the untwisted fabric strip. Then screw this strip in the same direction of rotation and put it over the other strips already twisted. While the fingers of the right hand are screwing in the fabrics, thumb and forefinger of the left hand must hold the screwed in.

When the shorter end is finished, a new strip of fabric is wrapped in this end and simply reworked. Again, it is important that one end is always shorter than the other. If both strips of material end at the same time, it is more difficult to incorporate new strips without the whole falling apart. The twirling of the fabrics is quite exhausting for the hands, so plan on taking a break. Once you get the hang of it, then it goes very fast and you have tens of meters of it wrapped.
