Harvest lavender and make fragrance bags yourself

The days I have harvested my lavender. I'm looking forward to the new fragrance bags, which I will replace after drying against last season. With me they come as protection from moths in the closet and in the wardrobe. For lavender bags and the defense against moths and insects are particularly the Speikelavendel, Schopflavendel and Wolllavendel, as they are sharper, such as the real lavender, which has a good effect for calming the psyche or for better falling asleep. Do not use the cultivated varieties. Although they look very nice and are therefore ideal for decoration, but do not stand out for their healing power.

Tips for drying lavender

As soon as my lavender shows the first flower, I harvest it already. Exactly then he has the most fragrance and is bursting with essential oils. Sure, I would like to see it longer in the garden, but I'm looking forward to the best harvest. On a dry day, I pick it up by hand and spread it on newspaper in a dark place.

Beware of mold

At one point, I thought it would be smart to store it in an open plastic can. Although he had already dried it, he quickly applied mold. I did not expect that. The whole harvest was gone. In another year, I had dried it in the sun. That was not a good idea. It bleached out and I had the feeling that the lavender bags have lost their effect much faster. You can also harvest the lavender along with the stems and then hang them up to dry in clusters. You just have to be careful to keep a little distance between the tufts, so that there is enough air.

Create fragrance bag with a good effect

For the fragrance bags only the dried flowers are used. Again, less is more. With the stems, it could happen that these do not dry out and then durchfuhr the mold here. For me now the scraps of fabric that I have collected over the year are used. The best is a linen fabric. Here I already have some that I use again and again. But before that I wash them to get rid of the moth pheromones.

Lavender oil supports the effect

At the turn of the year, I'll go and put a few drops of lavender oil on the pillows, which will make them fresh again, and they will hold me back for a few months, before the next harvest will start soon. By the way, I also sometimes give the lavender oil into the filling chamber of my washing machine, as it is said to have a disinfecting effect.
