Homemade apple and tomato chutney

Apple and tomato chutney is a kind of spicy jam that tastes great with cheese but also with cooked ham and bread. In England, you can buy tons of chutney, but you can also make it yourself if you enjoy working in the kitchen.

This chutney here is fast made, good for newbies in this field:

ingredients

  • 2 pounds of apples
  • 2 pounds of tomatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 1/2 liter of vinegar
  • 250 g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon chopped ginger

preparation

  1. The apples are peeled, gutted and cut into pieces, the onions are peeled and also cut into pieces.
  2. The tomatoes are cut in half, the seeds are taken out with a spoon and then cut into pieces.
  3. These three ingredients come in a pot, with ginger and peppercorns. Pour the vinegar over it and leave everything covered for one day.
  4. The next day add the sugar and the salt and cook the apples and vegetables slowly over low heat until everything is soft.
  5. Now you can fill the chutney in screw jars, which were previously rinsed with boiling water.

After two days it is properly pulled through and tastes very good, as mentioned, to cheese.
