How the carbonic acid stays longer in the opened bottle

You started a bottle of sparkling water and now you want to put it in the fridge. Although you close the bottle as tight as possible, the taste of the bottle the next day is pale, because a lot of carbon dioxide could escape.

To stop this from happening, simply close the bottle as tight as possible and put it in the fridge with the neck down. The carbon dioxide wants to escape upwards through small cracks in the opening, but it does not have the opportunity to do so.
