Improving numeracy in children

This is a tip for parents of elementary school children to improve children's numeracy. If you work in the number range from 0 to 100 or 0 to 1000, you will also find many exercises with the number in the math book.

In addition, I would like to suggest the following exercise:

Take a long piece of painter's tape (otherwise used for masking when painting) and glue it to the floor. It is best a tiled floor, because even here uniform sections are given. Then divide the tape section into sections along with the child (e.g., tens or hundreds sections).

To practice and deepen the following exercises are possible:

Expire the number range (eg: go from the 100 to the 400 or run back from the 600 to the 300). The advantage of this exercise is that the number space is now also made spatially tangible, which can promote the idea of numbers.

Cards with different numbers. For example, have 555 or 234 attached to the number line where they should be located approximately. (555 would have to be approximately between 500 and 600).

Other variation:

Drawing the number line in chalk on a paved piece (garden, play street or courtyard) in a giant format. Nevertheless, the most accurate distances should be maintained. Here you can run the numbers, jump, etc.

Such exercises can also be done well during school holidays. So you can deepen and repeat school material, without it being boring for the children. Repeating school material every now and then often makes sense, especially in the calmer children, who are unfortunately quickly forgotten in many noisy classes.
