Introduced: The remedy Camomile - chamomile oil manufacture

In my local tea shop the open chamomile ran out. The seller's tip was that I could bridge the time until the next delivery and find the aromatic herb in the fields at the moment. At first I found the idea a bit slanted, but on the next walk I actually found it. Now, the petals of the so-called? Real chamomile? dried on my balcony for use as a tea, the fresh chamomile I have already set with oil.

Different uses of chamomile

So far, I have always drunk the chamomile as a tea, as it simply gives me a good stomach feeling. As a panacea, it is not only used for stomach ailments. Chamomile oil can treat inflammation of the mucous membranes, gums and oral cavity. In case of cold or asthma, inhale with water vapor with the addition of open chamomile or a few drops of chamomile oil. A camomile bath relaxes over-stressed muscles and can relieve spasms in menstrual cramps. Camomile is used as an ointment against hemorrhoids and for wound healing.

Care products with chamomile

Creams for the face and body contain the medicinal plant as it softens and smoothes the skin and stimulates skin metabolism. Chamomile is also used for scar healing or to reduce acne. To lighten blond hair, a drop of chamomile oil is added to the shampoo.

Chamomile grows on fields

Artificial fertilizers and chemical weed control repeatedly push the chamomile back, but those who are careful, will encounter the undemanding plant often. It grows on fields, on roadsides and forest meadows, on embankments and especially in cereal, potato and turnip fields.

Do not confuse chamomile with other plants

Probably everyone knows the chamomile with its white, beaten back florets and the curved, yellow center disc. The real chamomile shows similarity with the field dog chamomile and stinking dog chamomile. And that's exactly what you can distinguish in case of doubt: the real chamomile convinces with an apple flavor. In addition, its flower base is hollow, the other varieties are filled.

Make chamomile oil yourself

A bright bottle (or a bright glass) is filled to the bottleneck with chamomile flowers. The rest of the bottle you can pour cold-pressed olive oil, so that the flowers are covered. The firmly sealed chamomile oil should now be in the sun for about 14 days or in a warm place throughout. This can also be a warm windowsill. Then the oil is strained into a dark bottle. This can be done by means of a cloth or a coffee filter. Now the oil changes its place in the fridge. It should be used up within six to 12 months. If the two weeks of permanent heat input are too delicate, add flowers and oil in a ratio of 1:30 (or about 15 grams of chamomile to 500 ml of oil) to a glass and then put on a water bath. The mixture should run for two hours at the lowest level, every 30 minutes may be stirred. Again, the result is strained and stored in a dark bottle sealed in the refrigerator.

Now I'm curious if I (and maybe you) succeed in drying the petals and making the oil. If so, the medicine cabinet would be well prepared for many purposes by another means.
