Irish bread (Irish soda brad). A bread based on an original Irish recipe!
ingredients
- 500 g flour (best spelled wholemeal flour)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 500 ml buttermilk
preparation
- Preheat the oven to 220 ° C.
- Mix the flour with salt and soda, mix the buttermilk.
- Add the liquid mixture to the flour and stir with a fork only until everything mixes into a slightly moist dough (you may not use all the buttermilk!).
- Knead briefly and form into a round, flat loaf.
- Cut the surface crosswise about 1 cm deep and place the bread on a greased baking sheet lined with baking paper.
Baking time:
15 minutes at 220 ° C in a preheated oven, then reduce the heat to 190 ° C and bake the bread for another 20-25 minutes.
Tip:
At will you can also knead dried fruit.
Test the food:
Tap the bottom of the bread with your finger - if it sounds hollow, the bread is baked through.
