Itching in the ears - tip from the ENT specialist

I have problems with dry, inflammatory-prone skin in both ears. Then the skin in the ear canal is irritated, itches and itches very much and I have to control myself, not to scratch around in it.

Very bad after showering or hair washing. Most of the time I end up with the darn cotton swabs, although I know how much damage the things can do in the ear.

Therefore, I am now again in treatment at the ENT, this time was represented by another doctor and was to my delight "communicative" was / is. I did not need to apologize to him either, because I still had questions ... just in passing.

He advised me, in my case (see above) to avoid getting water, shampoo and other "chemistry" (original sound) in the ear. This would increase the itching and the skin could not heal.

He has a good talk, the man! - I thought to myself ... and before I could ask, he gave me the following tip, which I do not want to withhold from other fellow sufferers here:

Before washing your hair (and even "just" showering!) Vaseline on cotton balls and stuff them in the ear canals. In addition (while washing your hair) press the outer ear forward and wash both sides of the head separately with each free hand. For this, bend the head slightly forward, ie rinse off "overhead" shampoo, etc.

He told me that he himself would use this method for years and would advise anyone, whether he had ear problems or not. This was a bit awkward at the beginning, but you quickly "got the hang of it" and after a while it was routine.

I am tired to deal with auditory canal infections & Co. (this time it was an old encrustation ?, which was right in front of the eardrum) and will take this advice in any case.

When I think of it, that I often "washed clean" my ears with the shower - but then I preferred to keep that to myself ... :-)
