Karanteta, an Algerian national dish

A few days ago, we were invited to dinner with Algerian friends and, among other things, there was Karanteta. I'm always very skeptical about things I do not know, but I enjoyed it so much that I baked it today.

You eat it with baguette, salad, harissa paste or just like that. The taste is hard to describe, such as between scrambled eggs and I do not know :-). The preparation is very simple.

ingredients

  • 500 g chickpea flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 medium cup of sunflower oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Harissa to taste
  • 2 L of water
  • 1 tablespoon cumin

preparation

  1. Mix the ingredients with the mixer until a frothy liquid is formed. Leave everything for about 30 minutes.
  2. Pour into a high-frying pan and bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 40 minutes.
  3. The caranteta is ready when the mass is stocky and slightly browned.

Tips

You can also take half the amount of everything if you want to test first.

Freezes well and tastes thawed like fresh.
