Keep Nutella fresh for longer
All Nutella fans beware:
Remove the inner cardboard lid from the white screw cap when you start the new glass. It's very easy with a standard knife. Pierce at the edge and move the lever away from the lid. Already one jumps to the cardboard insert.
This small inconspicuous part has no reason to exist. That would have struck me in my long-term experiments.
Hard Facts:
The inner cardboard lid is neither odorless nor tasteless. Once the aluminum foil on the glass is removed, the cardboard lid softens from the rising dampness of the Nutella. In dramatic consequence, substances are released that penetrate deep into the delicious Nutella and make it age tastily. As time goes by, the aroma goes away, and a new taste spreads. The Nutella tastes old and you think a little, you would smear tree bark on bread.
Things get really criminal when you have accidentally opened a new glass and experienced the difference live. At the "old" glass one then no longer has pleasure, because one knows that there is something wrong.
I can distinguish between two blindfolded pairs of glasses bought the day before at the same time. One of them was immediately removed after opening, while the other one remained in it after opening. One day is one day too much. After a little more than a week with cardboard insert the Nutella is inedible for me. Without cardboard insert, I can easily keep it for more than 3 months and it always tastes like fresh.
Attention: Sometimes the cupola glasses in the plastic lid have a cutout with a thin acrylic glass pane. One should then rather prefer the normal lid, or decant the Nutella.
By the way: In my long-term experiments, I could not find the meaning of this cardboard insert on the track. My guess: He should ensure that the glass with the plastic lid tightly closes. However, I noticed that the glass even without the cardboard insert tightly closes.
So get out with the junk. Detailed research results on request. If Thomas Gottschalk reads here: I bet that I can tell Nutella blindfolded as described above ;-)
