Knowledge experiment for children "Conifers / Pine cones"

A very interesting experiment e.g. for the kindergarten or for the home. First you show the children how open pine cones look like, then you put them (small and big) in cold water for a few hours and then you can marvel how quickly the cones have closed, they have a different shape and are solid locked.

Now it is exciting for the children, because they are taught how the coniferous trees proliferate thanks to the pine cones in nature and propagate. While the cones were still hanging on the tree, they have saved the seeds of the trees in order to reproduce. You must distribute the seeds as much as possible with the help of wind. But this only happens on fine days, when it does not rain, otherwise the seeds would be too heavy due to the rain and they can not fly far. That's why the pine cones have a great protection mechanism that protects them from rain. They just pull their scales together and close.

Now you can demonstrate the whole thing even without water and although you hang yourself to pine cones outside the window, because they are a great weatherman. On days when it is likely to start raining, you will see the cones closed, on fine days they will remain open. It is very interesting to see how nature has planned everything perfectly. Have fun experimenting!
