Laundry smells or smells, although freshly washed?

Your laundry smells musty, even though it is freshly washed? I also had this problem. I think I read pretty much anything on the internet that I read about it. Through my research, ia. When I came to FM, I could identify three malefactors for my problem, which I will discuss later.

But I have to say that not all my laundry smelled like that, only dark laundry, which you usually can not cook. Both washer and dryer always smelled fresh and I always had fresh-smelling 60 degree laundry. If this is not the case, it should first start there, but that's not the point here.

Now to the evildoers or the factors that influence the degree of muffle:

  • My nice new energy efficient washing machine
  • liquid detergent
  • softener

My old Washing machine was far from any energy efficiency class. She used a lot of water and a lot of electricity to heat up the water, but always did a great job of washing and cooking. I have then watched my new washing machine and saw that at least in the whole "eco" and "easy care" programs, the laundry is drizzled only by water, so it is just wetted, but no longer swimming properly in the lye, so like in old times.

liquid detergent - According to my research and that of another user (who unfortunately is not here any more) liquid detergents contain things that are not contained in heavy detergents (polymers), but they lack, for example, substances that hold the dissolved dirt in the liquor. I can do all this in detail, but in the end, liquid detergents do not wash as clean as powder. This has been repeatedly confirmed by Stiftung Warentest. In combination with moisture, the deposits create an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. The washing machine becomes a bioreactor when used for a long time and our laundry becomes the breeding ground for the bacteria and fungi we have on our skin and around us. That's why the smell.

softener - one of the main components of fabric softener is beef fat, a waste product from the slaughterhouse. This fat settles on the fibers and makes them soft, but at the same time also forms the basis for a wonderful breeding ground for anything that can stink.

What helped?

  1. I no longer wash with eco or easy-care programs, but only with normal washes. For this I always choose the "water plus" button for increased water volume. I accept the increased water and energy consumption.
  2. I only wash with powder detergent. If possible, I also use washing soda, for example towels and white linen. As I said, no more liquid detergent, although with the things felt fluffier.
  3. Once a month I wash my white towels at 95 degrees, for machine care
  4. I wash dark delicates with a mild detergent at 40 degrees. This has no optical brightener.
  5. I do not use softener at all. Vinegar or citric acid (for those who care about their seals) in the last rinse will do. If the laundry is too hard afterwards, it will be in the dryer for 10 minutes.
  6. Functional clothing from the sport I wash with mild detergent, in the last rinse comes disinfectant, but I use only for functional clothing.

Since I handle this and that's over a year now, I finally did not have any stinking laundry anymore. I've shared these tips many times, even here in the forum. So that I do not have to raussuchen every time, I put it here as a tip.

Our recommendation: Cheap detergent powder
