Leaking battery - Clean remote control

My children pointed out to me, by the way, that already for a long time the second remote control of our Wii console would be defective, because leaked battery! Super, that could not have been said earlier ?! Well, I learned what to do in such a case and had the ambition to clean the remote to get it working again.

That's how I proceeded:

At first I gathered everything I wanted to use for the cleaning.

  • glass cleaner
  • Nail polish remover (you can probably take vinegar)
  • Disposable gloves
  • cotton swab
  • toothpick
  1. First of all gloves were put on, then the remote control opened and the batteries removed. I think in the first photo you can see very well, that there was quite a bit to clean.
  2. The rough dirt I have carefully knocked over a cloth / Zewa (which you can then dispose of). The rest of the rough rest was rubbed off with the help of a cotton swab. That was the worst way to go.
  3. As a next step, I moistened another cotton swab with some window cleaner and wiped the interior of the remote control ?.
  4. In corners and grooves, I have cleaned with a toothpick, of course, very carefully, so that nothing is damaged.
  5. Since I've read that you can take nail polish remover for cleaning, I've also tried it, to moisten a cotton swab so that the interior and thus virtually cleaned. Especially the contact points!
  6. Now the remote control had to dry nicely on the heater. I think, if you are in a hurry, you can also take a hair dryer, in any case, it is of course important that everything is completely dried before you insert the new batteries.

Fortunately, after this procedure, the remote control goes back!

Of course the batteries were recycled!
