Make basil salt yourself

Now is the time to think of and prepare Christmas gifts from the kitchen: for example, aromatic and fresh basil salt!

ingredients

  • 1 pot of basil
  • coarse sea salt

A good mix is:


  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/3 cup fresh chopped basil leaves

preparation

  1. (It is advisable to roughly chop the fresh basil before placing it in the food processor). Depending on the size of the food processor, everything or half of the ingredients are pureed until salt and basil mix well.
  2. Every now and then with a spatula in between the wet mass from the edge and mix again.
  3. The basil does not need to be dried beforehand, as the salt extracts water from the basil and, after drying, has an almost unlimited shelf life.
  4. When everything is well mixed, the mass is spread on baking paper and dried 24 hours (also longer depending on the weather) in a bright place. Strong sun exposure should be avoided.

Tips

The salt can also be dried in the oven. But I think that is unnecessary in the summer.

Fill in, give away or enjoy in screw jars.

This seasoning salt is a delight to tomatoes (with and without mozzarella), salads, vegetables and also on a buttered bread.


In a previous tip, the comments already mentioned basil salt. The original tip was for another topic, and since I've been preparing it for years, I wanted to pass it on here.

Since there are fresh herbs everywhere, you can stock up on wonderful salts. All herbs are suitable individually or together as a spicy mixture.
