Make firm body butter yourself

Homemade solid body butter pieces, as from the British cosmetics manufacturer with L, only much cheaper and with your own favorite fragrance.

This requires a few "more exotic" ingredients that you do not necessarily have in the house. Everything can be ordered but at acceptable prices on the Internet. In the case of the plant butters I prefer unrefined organic goods, as they contain many substances that are good for the skin. Also with the oils one should give cold-pressed products preference.

You need:

  • 10 g of beeswax
  • 10 g of vegetable oil (nourishing edible oils such as sunflower oil work just as well as more specialized oils, often mixed with several oils)
  • 100 g shea butter
  • 100 g of cocoa butter
  • Essential oil to taste, about 30 drops

This is how it's done:

  1. First, you should ensure clean hands and a clean workplace, who wants, can also work with disinfectants. The used vessels should best come fresh from the dishwasher.
  2. Now you first melt the beeswax in a jam jar or similar. in a water bath, when it is liquid, add the butter and the oil and melt everything with stirring. Try to work with as little heat as possible and gently melt the fats, otherwise their ingredients may be destroyed. Often, a thermometer is recommended for such work, but my experience shows that it works great too. When a clear, homogeneous liquid has formed, remove the glass from the water bath and continue stirring until the mass has cooled slightly. Now, essential oils can be added to taste.
  3. Then the liquid is poured into silicone molds, I take it for small Gugelhupf muffin cups. Of course you can also use other shapes, but they should be made of flexible material. The filled molds are then placed in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Then you can "pulen" the almost finished, already solid body butters from the molds.
  4. It should now stand for about two days, because the cocoa butter takes so long to fully cure again. Then the body butters are ready for use.

Warmed up and liquefied between the palms, all dry areas like feet and elbows enjoy the body butter, but also massaged on the rest of the body is a treat for dry skin.
