Make hanging lamp made of wool

I wanted a big round hanging lamp made of a warm material. My coveted object was a very expensive designer model, which was only made of metal. So I built my own lamp and wrapped a few miles of wool around a giant balloon.

In the department store there are large balloons in a pack of three in the stationery department. This led to the idea to make a lamp itself.

Crafting instructions for a hanging lamp made of wool

Inflate the balloon to the desired size and hang it over a work surface. I hung the balloon with the packing tape on the lamp above the kitchen table.
Lay out the worktop for protection with newspaper and mix with glue. The paste must not be too thin, otherwise the lamp is not stable enough afterwards.
Mix a thick porridge and rub the balloon with it. I chose cotton and wool with two different strengths. Crochet yarn is great. The wool should not louse too much.
Apply the yarn in your hand and then wrap it around the balloon.

I have done this on several days in stages. Whenever I felt like it, I continued to develop. When winding, make sure that there is an opening at the top for the suspension and the cable with the bulb. When the lamp is finished, it has to dry thoroughly. I let it hang for 48 hours and only then bruised the balloon. Finally, attach the lamp to the cable with an old wire or clothes hanger. With a large, round light bulb in matt, there is a beautiful light and the lamp does not dazzle.

This is needed:

  • Giant air balloon (available in the department store)
  • Wallpaper paste (for heavy paper and vinyl wallpaper)
  • Crochet yarn 2 rolls
  • Wool 2 Great Danes
  • newsprint
  • scissors
