Make hedgehogs with children from salt dough

Today, we have collected colorful leaves with the grandchildren to decorate the table with it, because last week we had tinkered with the matching decorative hedgehogs from salt dough. These are now sitting on the collected leaves.

For this we first made a salt dough from the following ingredients:

  • 2 glasses of flour
  • 2 glasses of salt
  • 1/2 glass of water
  • 2 tbsp of wallpaper paste

preparation

  • We measured all ingredients, then put them in a larger bowl and mixed well.
  • Then the salted egg yolks are shaped with the hands. The spines are pre-plucked with 2 fingers, a small ball shaped for the nose and attached to the tip at the front.
  • Then we pre-dried the hedgehogs for 2 days on a sheet of baking paper.

Bake salt dough:

  1. The salt dough figures were already on the baking sheet, this we pushed now at 60 degrees for 1 hour in the oven.
  2. Then we raised the baking temperature to 100 degrees for 2 hours. You have to do this so that the parts do not crack or even blister. The slower the salt dough dries in the oven, the lower the likelihood that the molds will crack or blister.
  3. After baking, the finished parts just had to cool down and dry, and we let them sleep on the tin.
  4. The next day we painted them together with the children, using a slightly thicker touched poster color, but you could also take water colors or even acrylic paints.
  5. Later, when the figures were dry, we fixed them with a little odorless hair spray. You could also use clear lacquer to prevent mold growth.

The grandchildren were very happy when the little "artworks" were finished. Soon all other grandmas and grandmothers will visit little hedgehogs and some will go to kindergarten tomorrow.
