Make modeling clay / cold porcelain yourself

I've always wondered how to make modeling clay myself. I used to do it with starch, wood glue, glycerin and hand cream. That's a terrible mess. It is actually very easy with less ingredients and without sticky hands.

In this quick recipe, mix 2 cups of soda with a cup of starch and stir in a pot with a cup of cold water, piece by piece. Bring the mixture to a firm porridge with a whisk, stirring constantly. As soon as the mass solidifies, turn the stove down. If the mass is solid enough, then remove the pot from the stove and let the homemade cold porcelain cool a little. Knead the mixture and wrap it in a cling film so that it does not dry out. If the dough is still sticky, just add some starch to it. The whole thing can last up to three weeks in the fridge.

The wrong porcelain is a bit milky. If you want to have it all white, you can mix some opaque white or white acrylic paint before cutting out shapes. With the material, gift tags can be produced in the oven without burning. Simply roll out the mass, cut out with cookie cutters and let the trailer dry in the air for 24 hours.

This is needed:

  • 2 cups of soda (about 250 g)
  • 1 cup of starch (about 80 g)
  • 1 cup of water
  • Pot and whisk
  • possibly opaque white or white acrylic paint
  • Cling film
