Make walnut milk yourself

There are various recipes for nut, almond and oatmeal. Now we have a wonderfully productive walnut tree in the garden - last year it was about 30 kg and so I tried walnut milk.

ingredients

  • 100 g of walnuts
  • 1 L of water
  • 1 pinch of salt

  1. Cover the walnuts with water and drain off the water approximately every 2 hours. Thus, the bitter substances contained in the walnut skin do not migrate into the walnut.
  2. After about 8 hours, drain the water, and mix the walnuts with 400 ml of water and a pinch of salt in the blender for 5 minutes at the highest level.
  3. Then strain the nut mass through a cloth and squeeze it out. Pour the remaining 600 ml of water through the cloth so that the last ounce of walnut milk is not lost.

Of course, if you have a big blender, you can start with more water right away.

Tips

  • The salt can also be omitted.
  • Shelf life: stored in the fridge for about 4 days.
  • Inspired by many nut milk recipes, I ended up with 100 grams of walnuts. Everything that is more was too strong in our taste. So the consistency is our favorite.
  • I like to bake the walnut press in the bread - or it comes in with the cereal - or in the cake.
  • One last thing: we mix cow's milk with walnut milk in a ratio of 1: 1 for our cappuccino. The taste is amazing :-)
  • And beware: the walnut milk can also boil over!
