Make window boxes windproof with fir branches

About 2 weeks ago I cleared my window boxes of the summer planting, used some evergreen plants and buried onions of spring flowering plants.

In order to protect the earth from frost and dehydration (I hope anyway), but also, so that it looks more beautiful, I have put fir branches in the gaps. And every night, when I came home, I found half of my branches blown in the garden ...

So, now I have made of flower wire (always present because lifted) brackets - similar hairpins - and pinned the branches (some stuck so vertically into the ground, I like that not so good), and now holds the like "branch "and winter can come!
