Make yeast for baking yourself

Everything can be bought ready today, including dry yeast and moist yeast in cubes. So you can certainly live without the knowledge of this yeast production. My argument for it: it's fun, even for children, among whom there are often small researchers and inventors.

Here is the recipe for homemade baker's yeast:

Ingredients:

3 cooked medium sized potatoes
1 tsp sugar
3 tablespoons light beer

That is how it goes:

you crush the boiled potatoes well. With the sugar and beer, the potatoes are stirred to a pulp. This porridge is pretty
thick. He has to stand cool for 3 days until he is fermented. With cool I do not mean the fridge, which is too cold, but ideally the basement in the house. Very well suited is a stone pot - sometimes you can get the gray pots at flea markets. This is thoroughly scrubbed, you put the Hefeansatz into it and then he is tied with a linen cloth firmly. If you do not have a stone pot, a stoneware vessel will do the same, and you also close it with a cloth, so that some air gets to the yeast.

Then you have a yeast for about 2 to 3 pounds of flour. If you only have 1 pound of flour to process, take less of the homemade yeast. The dough, by the way, gets very loose when mixed with buttermilk instead of milk.

Then you can use it to make pizza dough, pies or yeast cake. Just knead the "witch's brew" with the flour, then the rest
desired ingredients such as butter, sugar, almonds, egg, salt or oil - depending on the recipe - add. Leave this dough in a warm place. Since the residual heat of the dishwasher offers when the drying process is completed and the machine makes no more noise. Then put the bowl in - after about 30 minutes the dough has "gone", i. he almost doubled. Let it rise and bake.
