Make yourself towel holder from old belts

Old belts where the buckle is broken or the holes torn, you do not have to throw away. They are perfect for making a holder for dish or guest towels. Also straps of old handbags or dog leashes can be used.

This is needed:

  • Two belts, 2-3 cm wide
  • 3 rods, length: 50 cm, Ø 10 mm
  • Thin crochet or embroidery thread
  • 2 eyelets
  • awl
  • cutter
  • tape measure
  • Wooden base

That's how it's done:

For the towel holder, the belt buckles are first separated. Cut both belts lengthwise into two long straps.

To fix the eyelet for the suspension, holes are drilled in all four parts at a distance of 0.5 cm, 1.5 cm with an awl. Then two straps are sewn together with crochet thread. The thread is pulled with the needle from the back to the front and then led to the right a loop down and the thread again from bottom to top through both leather straps. So four loops are sewn to the right and then four to the left. Then the eyelet is inserted and the two straps sewn under the eyelet in the same technique. At intervals of three centimeters to the last seam holes are again stung through both leather straps. From this third hole at a distance of 2.5 cm punch another fourth hole in both belts. In the distance between the third and fourth hole later the round wood is inserted.

From the fourth hole, holes are drilled again in both belts with the awl at a distance of approx. 43 cm and 45.5 cm. This will be the attachment loop for the second rod. At intervals of 43 and 45.5 cm from the previous hole, pierce the leather straps with the awl. The easiest way is to punch all four belts first. Here again the measurements for the holes (always measured from above): 0.5 cm, 1.5 cm, 4.5 cm, 7 cm, 50 cm, 52.5 cm, 95.5 cm, 98 cm. Cut the four leather straps to a uniform length of one meter.
