Making coffee pods yourself - camper tip

Camper tip: Make coffee pods yourself

I travel a lot with my RV in Europe. First, I drank soluble coffee, there are now quite good varieties, but they are not exactly cheap. And with the classic filter and boiling water to brew my coffee, that was a bit too complicated for me. You also have to be very careful that you do not get the coffee powder in the sewage system of the WoMos.

At home I have a coffee machine with pads (no capsules). Such a pad is indeed made of round filter paper, with ground coffee powder in it. As you know, the machine does not brew these pads with 100 degrees hot water.

Then I came up with the idea to do the (purchased round) coffee pods directly into my coffee cup and then boiling water from the kettle. Similar to tea bags.

This worked wonderfully on most pads. Only some coffee pods probably have thicker filter paper. You just have to stir the coffee pad with the coffee spoon a bit in the cup.

However, in some European countries - where I often travel - coffee pods are completely unknown.

Man / woman could take so many coffee pods from home on the trip. Problem: these coffee pods in this country are very large in volume, e.g. 16 pads are almost as big as 500g ground coffee powder! (From 500 g of coffee about 70 pads can be made).

And so I came up with the idea to make my own coffee pods.

In addition I have bought on the Internet tea filter bags (for 1 cup of tea) and there I fill in about 7 g of coffee powder. So much coffee is in the round finished pads.

These filters are closed with a staple clip from the stapler.

My pads are not round but angular, but that's no match for the coffee powder ...

Advantage for me as a camper:

I save a lot of storage space and the disposal of my pads is a clean business.

Note:

the cost of tea filter bags and coffee powder are only marginally cheaper compared to the finished pads.
