Making cough syrup from ribwort plantain itself

Time

Preparation time: 10 min.

A simple recipe for an effective cough syrup made of ribwort leaves and candy, which I once received from a herbalist.

For the ribwort cough syrup you need:

  • fresh ribwort leaves (only collect intact, undamaged leaves, do not pick them directly from the wayside or "dog rounds"), pick pieces
  • Krümelkandis in about the same amount

You should also have ready:

  • sufficient screw jars
  • possibly adhesive labels
  • Screw bottle (s) for the finished syrup

And this is how it's done:

  1. Lay the ribwort leaves with the candy alternately into the screw jars until they are completely full. Finish with a layer of candy.
  2. Now the glasses are closed and labeled with content and date of manufacture.
  3. Now you have to leave the whole thing for about three months, until the candy has completely liquefied.
  4. When the time comes, the syrup is drained through a sieve or pantyhose, the leaves are squeezed out.
  5. The finished syrup is then filled into suitable screw bottles and labeled. I like to use these small glass bottles, in which there are lemon and lime juice to buy.
  6. This syrup should be stable for about a year, even at room temperature. I always kept my syrup in the fridge when I did not use it. And he was always used up in the spring! : D

When coughing you take 2-3 tablespoons a day, children 2-3 teaspoons. Incidentally, most respiratory infections are viral, which means that antibiotics are ineffective. In this case, such a gentle therapy is just right!

However, you should always take care of yourself and in case of aggravation of the symptoms consult a doctor!

Of course you could also just buy a finished ribwort syrup. However, I am constantly in nature and like to work with wild herbs and medicinal plants. Of course, I also like to process them! In addition, I think the idea to be able to provide a piece of independent of industrially manufactured products itself.
